VINTAGE 1940’s/50’s BIRGER HAGLUND JEWELLERY SET. Offered for sale is this very rare jewellery set which was made in South Africa in the late 1940’s/early 1950’s by the Swedish Silversmith Birger Haglund. The set comprises of the necklace with matching bracelet and a similar contemporary pair of screw back earrings. All items are in a used vintage condition and the silver shows signs of use, light tarnish, nicks to the silver, all commensurate with age and being worn. The bracelet has had a new bar clasp added as the original one had snapped in half. The bracelet measures 7 inch in length and comprises of four circular panels, each one containing a different design: zebra, rhino, elephant & African lady. The necklace measures 15 inch in length and has three circular panels, Elephant, African lady and Zebra. The earrings are a different design but match the rest of the set very well. These are screw back earrings. All pieces bear the Haglund mark. Birger Haglund was a Swedish silversmith but produced items of jewellery in Johannesburg, South Africa for four years, between 1948 & 1952, so these items of jewellery are very rare.
