Medal Victoria Regina Imperatrix Queen’s South Africa Boer War Sterling Silver
This is a Sterling Military Medal issued during the English Boer War at the turn of the Century in South Africa. I cannot find one of these with the long blue ribbon, so I have concerns about this being a replacement ribbon. Edge marked with a serial # of 6597 Pte E. Listing is for the Medal pictured. For your consideration: an antique Boer War-era Queen’s Victoria Regina et Imperatrix Silver Medal with 2 Bars (Orange Free State and Cape Colony). The medal does not come with its original ribbon (can be replaced). Hallmarks: Victoria Regina et Imperatrix on the front. South Africa on the back. A on the edge Dimensions: The medal has a diameter of 36mm. Condition: Very good vintage condition some minimal signs of wear, consistent with age: light deformation of one of the edges, under the A. Obverse: Crowned, veiled, and draped bust left; Reverse: Britannia standing right, with back facing, holding banner and wreath; battle scene in background. Edge: 23193 BOMB: J. Queen Victoria South Africa Silver Medal Private W Parlane 18th Hussars. Silver Queens South Africa Medal awarded to W Parlane of the. Victoria Mary, Prince of Waless own Hussars. The medal itself is in good condition for its age, the edge inscription is slightly worn and part of the name is illegible, photos of the edge are attached. From the remaining details, service number 4779 Private and last part of name Lane and the regiment 18 Hussar’s I have identified the medal recipient as W Parlane of the 18. The suspension bar for the ribbon is missing however from research I have found that there should have been medal clasps for. October 1899 to 17. Defence of Ladysmith 3. November 99 to 28. Orange Free State 28. February 1900 to 31. Other research shows that William Parlane was born in Pembroke in 1877 joined the army on 9. The medal is 35mm in diameter and weighs 30.5grams.
