This coin was struck during the early years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign featuring her first portrait when South Africa was the South African Union before it became the Republic of South Africa in 1961. This is one of the lowest mintage 5 shilling coins produced with fewer than 4000 struck. While this coin is not a melt coin, it is 50% silver and contains a total silver weight of.
