This beautiful Silver Coin Set is the fifth issue in the The World´s Most Famous Bullion Coin series and is dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the Krugerrand, the most famous South African coin. The coin has an individual numbering, has a reverse Proof quality and comes in an elegant case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to 5.000 pcs worldwide. The reverse of the coin set depicts a beautiful Antelope running on the African brushwood and the design is beautifully continued on the coin. All around the reverse of the coin, the inscriptions: KRUGERRAND the name of the coin, 2017 the year of issue, FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER the fineness of the Silver and “R1″ – tha face value. On the top left corner of the reverse of the coin, the individual numbering and on the bottom right corner, the inscription: 2 OZ AG. 999 the weight and the fineness of the Silver. The coin’s obverse depicts the effigy of Paul Kruger, 3rd President of The South African Republic. All around, the inscription: SUID AFRIKA. SOUTH AFRICA the issue country. On the left side of the reverse of the coin, the inscription: 1697 – 2017 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN KRUGERRAND. Krugerrand The Krugerrand is a South African gold coin, first minted in 1967 to help market South African gold and produced by the South African Mint. By 1980 the Krugerrand accounted for 90% of the global gold coin market. The name itself is a compound of Kruger (the former South-African president depicted on the obverse) and rand, the South African unit of currency. During the 1970s and 1980s some Western countries forbade import of the Krugerrand because of its association with the apartheid government of South Africa. Production levels of Krugerrands have significantly varied during the last 50 years. During 19671969, around 40.000 coins were minted each year. In 1970, the number rose to over 200.000 coins. More than one million coins were produced in 1974, and in 1978 a total of six million Krugerrands were produced. Following the end of apartheid, the production dropped to 23.277 coins in 1998 and since then levels have increased again, albeit not reaching pre-international sanction levels.
