The series is “Life of a Legend” and this particular coin is “The Freedom Charter”. In the series each coins shows a snapshot of the life of Nelson Mandela. The obverse features Nelson Mandela and a row of Proteas are just below his figure. I think that in order to be compliant with the legislation authorizing the Protea series that they just fitted in some Proteas to still be within the mandate authorizing the minting of “Protea Coins”.
