It features the South African Republic’s first president, Paul Kruger. On the reverse, a springbok, which is the national animal, and the date of minting appear. The springbok seems to be jumping into action, while President Kruger is a reminder of 19th century South African political and military affairs. To commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the South African Mint added the silver bullion coin to its portfolio. In preparation of the Jubilee, designers at the South African Mint undertook an intensive re-examination of the Krugerrand and discovered some of the artistic detail of the original design had been lost. The detail was put back by the mint, using modern technology to enhance the beauty of the Krugerrand. This is not a photo of the actual item.

Bisected image of Leopard Head, denomination, size. Fourth Release in Series II. Series II / Natura Series Connection. When South Africa Mint released its new the Big 5 series in 2019, it took the numismatic collecting world by storm. This series is reminiscent of another famous South African Mint animal series that was first struck in the 1990s – the Natura Series. The last of the Series I coins (the Buffalo) finished up in the Spring of 2021, so the mint is “capturing lighting in a bottle” again by releasing the Series II version of the Big 5 animals with exciting new variations of the Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Spotted Leopard and African Buffalo. The coins in the new Big 5 program are certain to appeal to collectors who enjoyed the previous designs from the Natura coins. Limited Quantities / Fourth of the Big Series II Animals – the Leopard. Coins in the Big 5 Series II release will be struck in very limited quantities over the course of two-and-a-half years (2021 to 2023). The fourth design in the Series II release is the beautiful Leopard. The mintage for the 1-ounce silver BU coin is only 20,000. Given the fact that previous Big 5 Series 1oz silver BU coins have been fully allocated by the mint, it is anticipated that this new 2023 1oz Silver Big 5 Series II Leopard BU coin will follow suit. The obverse design features the proud and powerful full-on image of a Leopard. A bevy of finite details are captured brilliantly on the coin. The reverse design is an innovative design that showcases a bisected image of the Leopard head. When two Big-5 Series II Leopard coins are held next to each other, the image of the handsome animal looks complete.
