Brilliant Uncirculated coins in the R1 series generally have very low mintages and very few of them get graded – when they do it is usually by serious collectors. Often, the MS coins command much higher prices than PF versions. This is because of a two-fold problem of low mintages and few being graded other than by collectors. Despite having a low mintage there is a somewhat high population of coins: 72 coins have been graded at NGC. Of these 72 coins, 19 coins have graded this grade of MS 67. Only 5 coins have graded higher and only 5 coins have graded the highest grade of MS 68. This coin was minted to celebrate CRICKET IN SOUTH AFRICA. This is a duplicate in my collection as I have upgraded. The holder is in great condition. You get the exact one shown here: certification # 2846927-005. 1994 south africa SILVER 1 rand CONSERVATION R1 RAM PEDIGREE. NGC MS68 ONLY 3 COINS HIGHER. The older uncirculated R1 coins are a bit unusual in that most all of them have a relatively low mintage. They typically do not grade well and often a MS67 or MS68 is a relatively high grade. This coin would be considered a high-grade coin for the era. Only 3 coins have graded higher and NONE have ever graded MS70. This “Conservation” coin is very scarce in uncirculated condition. This is a duplicate in my collection after years of trying to upgrade the coin. I have lots of South African silver coins – over 150 South Africa silver coins listed – including graded and raw coins.
