2020 South Africa 2-oz Silver Krugerrand Proof NGC PF70UC First Day of Production 1 of First 862 Struck w/Black Core & Silver Label. Collectors around the world got a treat in 2017 when the South African Mint marked the 50th anniversary of the Gold Krugerrand with the first ever Silver Krugerrands. Collectors quickly took to the new series, and silver coins became a regular issue. Now, the mint introduces this 2 oz silver proof. Part of a mintage of just 10,000 pieces, this proof was struck from. Featuring a Stunning Springbok Antelope Design by Coert Steynberg Both faces of this coin take their designs from the gold series. On the obverse is Otto Schultz’s left-side portrait of Paul Kruger. Kruger served as the third President of the South African Republic and was an important, though controversial, figure in the country’s history. Schults shows Kruger with his famous long, thick beard. Alongn the rim are inscriptions of the issuing country’s name in Afrikaans, “SUID-AFRIKA, ” and English, SOUTH AFRICA. Coert Steynberg’s reverse design features the country’s national animal, the springbok antelope. The graceful creature is shown from the side as it bounds across the South African plains. The coin’s date, “2020, ” is split by the creature, while its name, “KRUGERRAND, ” arches over it. The inscriptions “FYNSILWER 2 OZ FINE SILVER” and “R2″ note the coin’s weight and face value on the bottom portion of the rim.
