Queens South Africa Medal 5553 Pte Logan. Kings Royal Rifle Corps. Ghost Dates
QUEENS SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL; 5553 PTE C LOGAN. KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS. Queen’s South Africa Medal (1899 – 1901) three bars: Cape Colony, Transvaal, South Africa 1901. Impressed named: 5553 PTE C. Private Logan, King’s Royal Rifle Corps. On the reverse of the medal Britannia’s wreath points to the letter’R’ and it’s a’ghost date’ issue, faint, but they are there. I attribute no extra value to’ghost dates’, it’s just a point of interest. 42 men in the KRRC received this bar combination. A slightly better issue as Logan was on attachment, he may have had a special skill or qualification, for example, Marksman. Logan was a member of the 7th Battalion Militia Reserve and during his service in the regiment during the Boer War he served in the 3rd Battalion of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. In 1908 this 3r Battalion became the 6th Battalion (Special Reserve) King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Be aware that you might have to sail out of the bay. Most sales are despatched same day.
