In this Gel Sugilite cabochon you can see both the violet-purple sugilite, but you can also see Blue Sugilite which is called Richterite! I cannot stress enough just how rare this particular Sugilite Gel gemstone is. Sugilite is already quite rare, gel sugilite is rarer, but Blue sugilite is literally 10 times rarer – that’s what I call crazy rare! Richterite is only found in the Kalahari region of South Africa. Hardcore Sugilite fans will know just how valuable a genuine Gel stone actually is and the addition of richterite means that this is a very special piece. Gel Sugilite is very rare and is the highest quality and highest prized of all the forms that Sugilite comes in other than Sugilite crystals. Gel sugilite is actually a translucent to semi-opaque gemstone which can be seen when viewed from behind with a strong torch light. I have then set this pretty gem into solid 925 hallmarked sterling silver with a bezel setting and fancy filigree bail. It has been rhodium plated to resist tarnishing. The richterite is the dark blue colour seen at the base of the cabochon. This is a stunning example of quality modernist jewellery from South African jewellery designer WWL. The pendant will date between the 1950s to 1970s and is in lovely condition. Very stylish piece that comes complete with a sterling silver chain of good length for the pendant approx 47cm/ 18.5. The approx dimensions of the pendant are as follows: including bale 56mm drop, 42mm long without bale, 35mm at widest, 4mm deep silver oval, tigers eye stone 24 x 18mm, total depth of silver and stone 12mm, a good weight at over 24g (20.6g including the silver chain). The pendant is marked sterling and WWL. The chain is marked 925 (for sterling silver) on both ends of the clasp. This is in really lovely condition, with only light signs of wear and age eg minke surface scratches and some tarnish to interior sections. The stone is in excellent condition with no notable faults and has a lovely sheen. It is provided in the new complimentary box and so is ideal for gifting and for safe keeping.
