The mintage limit for those was set at 1,000,000 pieces, but the mintage limit for the proof offered here was a mere 15,000 pieces. The obverse depicts Paul Kruger facing the left. This version of the design is more detailed than the original. It was touched up with the latest technology by the South African Mint for this special occasion. Like other Krugerrands, this side is inscribed with the country of issue. A springbok is shown on the reverse. Like the obverse, this side is also more detailed than the original. A detailed South African landscape can be seen in the distance behind the springbok. There is even a special 50th anniversary privy mark above its back. This condition earned it the grade of Proof 69. The Ultra Cameo designation was awarded for its high level of visual contrast.
