You get the exact one shown here: certification # 2717344-001. 1992 R2 SILVER PROOF COINAGE CENTENNIAL PF69. This is a commemorative issue to recognize a new high speed minting process at the South African Mint. It is called ” MINT TECHNOLOGY” by the mint yet NGC has an arrogant practice of sometimes re-naming coins which sometimes conceals the actual thing being commemorated. Despite the coin design and artwork that clearly references the new’mint technology’, NGC made their own name for the coin and calls it “Coinage Centennial” despite the coin design / artwork and the intentions of the mint having nothing to do with that. THIS IS THE VERY FIRST SILVER 2 RAND AND IT STARTED THE LATEST SERIES THAT STILL CONTINUES TODAY. NOTE THAT THE CERT # ENDS IN -001. THAT IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE WHEN I MAKE SUBMISSIONS FOR MY COLLECTION, THE MOST IMPORTANT OR BEST COIN IS LISTED FIRST AS # -001. THIS IS A REALLY SHARP COIN AND I HAD HIGH HOPES THAT IT WOULD GRADE AT PF70 WHEN I SENT IT IN. GRADERS USE MAGNIFYING GLASSES AND MINOR THINGS THAT YOU CAN’T EVEN SEE WITH THE NAKED EYE ARE ENOUGH TO LAND A PF69 GRADE INSTEAD. Only 4 have graded higher and until just recently only 3 had graded higher. Also, for several of the coins in the R2 series, PF69 is the top pop. The 1993 Peace, the 1994 world cup soccer, the 2001 Dolphins, the 2011 WWF with table MTN privy, all had PF69 as the highest grade until recently. It is an extremely difficult task to find a raw R2 that will grade PF70. I speak from experience on this as I have sent countless R2 coins for grading. Many of the R2 coins – just like this 1992 Coinage Centennial – only have 5 or less that have graded PF70. So for the R2 series a PF69 isn’t a shabby grade. The silver proof R2 is a “Crown” size coin that contains 1 Troy ounce of silver. Over the years since its creation in 1992 the coins have featured designs and topics that vary wildly. This series has many interesting designs and it one of my favorites. Almost every coin in the series has a good to great design and there aren’t any that I consider to be poor like some of the R1 coins. Since the series started relatively recently it is possible to easily have a 95% complete collection and a 100% complete collection in PF70 or top grade is likely possible with diligence in getting the last few coins that are genuinely scarce (such a feat has not been done, yet). I participate in the NGC competitive registry sets and currently hold position #1. In the process of improving my collection I sell my duplicate coins here. In most instances I sell the coins for what I have in them and you’ll be hard pressed to find a better price on them. You may want to check out my other items as I have lots of South African silver coins, included graded and raw coins. I’ll be listing a number of other types of South African silver coins in the next few days. If you send multiple payments you’ll likely get multiple packages. International Buyers in South Africa.
