South Africa 1923 Silver Proof Set
The first year of issue of South Africa Proof Sets with 747 minted. Half Crown to copper Farthing. In my rich Numismatic career I have handled this set often but it is only the first time this set comes in the original Mappin and Webb (London) case of issue. I have only encountered another some 8 years ago (the Gold set on the other hand is normally found in the box). All coins BUNC, with variable degrees of toning especially so on the copper coinage. The copper coinage of this issue is reported to have been “blackened” at the mint (indeed they often come in dark sometimes silvery toned hues). Tel: +30 210 3648386.
