It wasn’t until 1941 that the mint was reopened once again as the South African Mint during a process where the country began severing ties with Britain. The words “SOUTH AFRICA” are inscribed on this side of the coin in both English and Afrikaans. On the reverse of the coin the words “KRUGERRAND” and “FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1″ encircle the image of a Springbok Antelope galloping across the open plains with mountains in the distance.
